That’s the newspaper Sunday Times who writes that Leicester can be quarantined in a few days.

The newspaper cites a source who works closely with Health Minister Matt Hancock.

This will be the first time the UK authorities have introduced such a measure at the local level during the corona crisis.

658 new cases of infection have been registered in the Leicester area in the two weeks up to June 16. This represents around 25 percent of the city’s total 2,494 cases of infection.

Interior Minister Priti Patel was a guest on Sunday’s BBC program “Andrew Marr Show”. There she confirmed that the British government is considering isolating Leicester.

“When the infection catches up locally, a local solution is the right answer,” Patel said in the program.

With the suburbs, Leicester has a population of around half a million.

Set up mobile test center

The Mayor of Leicester, Sir Peter Soulsby, thinks the test capacity in the East Midlands city should be increased.

“It is only when we know if we have a problem, and where the problem is, that we can decide whether we need to do something,” he said when he was a guest on another BBC program Sunday.

This week, a mobile testing center was set up in Spinney Hill Park, an area east of the city center.

Local authorities in Leicester say they need to get data from any positive tests quickly, to know how to tackle the problem.

Data from the tests conducted in the first two weeks of June should not have been available to local authorities until Thursday this week.
