British Airways had previously announced that it would have to cut up to 12,000 of the 42,000 jobs due to the corona crisis. For the pilots, the number of dismissals could be limited to 270, because the pilot association BALPA has agreed to a temporary salary reduction of 20 percent.
Like other airlines, British Airways has been hit hard by the corona crisis. The company, which does not receive special state aid, is currently operating at 20 percent of capacity before the crisis. It was recently decided to dispose of the entire 747-400 fleet (the largest in the world).
