He answered a question from the British state broadcaster BBC, on Thursday (16/6/2022), about the bleak state of relations between the two countries.
“I don’t think there is any more room for maneuver,” replied Lavrov.

“Because (Prime Minister Boris) Johnson and (Secretary of State Liz) Truss said openly: ‘We have to beat Russia, we have to bring Russia to its knees. Come on, do it,” Lavrov said.

Asked how Moscow currently sees Britain, Lavrov said, “A country that is once again trying to sacrifice the interests of its people for the ambitions of politicians, who only think about the next election and nothing else.”

Britain is among many countries that have imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia in response to its military campaign in Ukraine.
