British Home Secretary said Wiley’s publications were “anti-Semitic and hateful”

British Home Secretary Pretty Battle has asked Twitter and Instagram to provide a “complete explanation” of why “anti-Semitic” publications written by rapper Eli are not removed more quickly.

Police are investigating a series of posts by Wiley, whose accounts are temporarily banned on Twitter and Instagram.

Patel said the publications were anti-Semitic and “repugnant.”

“Social media companies must act faster to remove this terrible hatred from their platforms,” she added.

Wiley, 41, has published conspiracy theories and insulted the Jews through his accounts on Instagram and Twitter, which is followed by more than 940,000 users.

Twitter removed some of Wiley’s tweets, noting that it violated the site’s rules, while other tweets remained available 12 hours after they were posted. Twitter later said Wiley’s account was banned for seven days.

And Facebook – who owns Instagram – said on Sunday that the platform also banned the rapper account for seven days, and that “there is no place for hate speech on Instagram.”

The Wiley Publications series started Friday night, and its director John Wolf’s initial response was that, after knowing the artist for 12 years, he knew he was “not thinking this way.”

But on Saturday, Wolf said he had “broken all ties” with the rapper, and that “there is no place in society for anti-Semitism.”
