‘Brilliant’ Curl praised: ‘Without him it would be over after 90 minutes’

It is raining compliments for Tim Krul after his performance against Manchester United in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup. The Dutch goalkeeper kept Norwich City on his feet for a long time, but deep in the extension Harry Maguire hit the ball.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer called his defender the man of the match, but Ian Wright disagrees. “I thought Tim Krul was the Man of the Match,” said the former Arsenal attacker Match of The Day.

Among other things, Wright points to the rescue of the Dutchman on a header from Maguire. “That was very good. Before that, he was also a few times right. Without Curl, the game would undoubtedly end after ninety minutes. I think he was really looking forward to a penalty shootout.”

The British media are also impressed. From Sky Sports Krul gets an 8. “He thwarted United once.” That is supported by The Guardian, which concludes that United fired no less than 36 times in 120 minutes, but only eight attempts ended in goal. “And most of them were brilliantly saved by Krul.”

The Sun calls it ‘especially for Krul cruel’ that Norwich had to bend deep into the extension. “He made excellent rescues several times.” The boulevard newspaper also points to the heroic role of the Orange international against Costa Rica at the 2014 World Cup. “With the approaching penalty shootout, Krul probably recognized his chance as a recognized specialist.”

Of BBC concludes with ‘brilliant and extraordinary’ saves from Krul. The broadcaster therefore appoints him as Man of the Match.
