The bridging aid II is linked to the bridging aid I (June to August 2020). It supports small and medium-sized companies as well as self-employed people and freelancers who are particularly hard hit by the measures to combat pandemics. There is direct grants to the operational fixed costs that do not have to be repaid.
The application is again made via a tax consultant, auditor, sworn accountant, lawyer, who usually already knows the company well. “Thanks to this preliminary check, the applications can be approved quickly and the aid paid out quickly,” said the Federal Ministry of Economics. The application processing and payment are then carried out by the approval offices of the federal states.
Federal government is working on extending the program
Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier on this: “We don’t leave our companies alone in the crisis. Bridging Aid II helps those entrepreneurs who are still closed due to official orders or hygiene and distance rules or who can only drive at half speed.”
The federal government is already working on the aid too to be extended beyond December 2020as decided by the Prime Minister’s Conference on October 14th. “We are currently working on the implementation,” continues Altmaier.
Conditions improved
The conditions for bridging aid II have been significantly improved. For example, the funding was limited to small businesses up to ten employees deleted to a maximum of 15,000 euros.

In future, applicants who either
- a drop in sales of at least 50 percent in two consecutive months in the period April to August 2020 compared to the respective months of the previous year or
- recorded an average turnover drop of at least 30 percent in the months April to August 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year.
Deletion of the SME cap amounts
So far, smaller companies with up to five employees have received a maximum of 9,000 euros in bridging aid. Companies with up to ten employees maximum 15,000 euros. These cap amounts for small businesses, to which a large part of the Craft company counts were deleted without replacement.
Higher funding rates
- 90 percent of the fixed costs are reimbursed in the event of a drop in sales of more than 70 percent (previously 80 percent of the fixed costs).
- In the event of a drop in sales between 50 percent and 70 percent, 60 percent of the fixed costs will be reimbursed instead of the previous 50 percent
- 40 percent of the fixed costs are reimbursed in the event of a drop in sales of more than 30 percent (previously for a drop in sales of more than 40 percent).
