Brian Laundrie (23) confesses in notebook why he killed his fiancée Gabby Petito (22) | Abroad

On one of the pages, published among others on the CNN website, Brian Laundrie confesses why he killed Gabby Petito. Everything would have been the result of a tragic accident in Grand Teton National Park, where the couple was passing through last summer. “An unexpected tragedy,” Laundrie calls it. He writes that she had an unfortunate fall and was in excruciating pain as a result.

His notes, neatly written in blue ink, begin with a personal message for Gabby: “I wish I was by your side right now. I wish I could talk to you now.” Laundrie claims he did everything he could to comfort Gabby as her condition worsened. She wept in pain and shivered constantly from the cold. But in the end he couldn’t stand it anymore and decided to kill her.

“I don’t know how far her pain went, all I know is that she was in extreme pain. I ended her life, I thought it was merciful, that’s what she wanted, but now I see all the mistakes I’ve made. I panicked, I was in shock. But from the moment I decided to take her pain away, I knew I couldn’t go on without her.”

The notebook was found on October 20 last year in a bag near his body. He had fled to the Carlton Reserve, near his home in North Port, Florida. There he shot himself in the head. He also writes about that. “I’m ending it not because I’m afraid of being punished, but because I can’t handle having to go on without her for another day.”

In his booklet he still expresses his regret, especially about what he has done to his own family. “This is a shock for them but also a terrible sadness… Please don’t make it more difficult for them, this happened as an unexpected tragedy.”

Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie dominated the news for weeks last summer. The influencers gave their 169,000 followers a taste of the road trip that the two made with their van through the United States. Until disaster struck.

The family of 22-year-old Petito raised the alarm in early September after Laundrie returned home to Florida without his girlfriend, refusing to disclose Petito’s whereabouts. A few days later, the man fled, shortly after the body of his girlfriend was found dead in a national park in Wyoming. Gabby was killed by strangulation.
