Lawyers for the family of Brian Laundrie (23), the fiancée of the murdered Gabby Petito (22), have released eight pages from Laundrie’s notebook. That booklet was found in October last year, near his remains, in Florida. The story of the famous Instagram couple gets a very special twist. Because in it he reveals why he killed his girlfriend.

On one of the pages, published among others on the CNN website, Brian Laundrie confesses why he killed Gabby Petito. Everything would have been the result of a tragic accident in Grand Teton National Park, where the couple was passing through last summer. “An unexpected tragedy”, Laudrie calls it. He writes that she unfortunately fell into a creek and was in excruciating pain as a result.

His notes, neatly written with a blue pen, begin with a personal message for Gabby: “I wish I was by your side right now. I wish I could talk to you now.” Laundrie claims he did everything he could to comfort Gabby as her condition worsened. She wept from the pain and shivered constantly from the cold. But in the end he couldn’t stand it anymore and decided to kill her.

“How far her pain went (sic), I don’t know, I just know she was in extreme pain. I ended her life, I thought it was merciful, that’s what she wanted, but now I see all the mistakes I’ve made. I panicked, I was in shock. But from the moment I decided to take her pain away, I knew I couldn’t go on without her.”

Laundrie may well have written it down nicely. So far, there is no evidence that he also cared for Gabby. The notebook was found on October 20 last year in a bag near his body. He had fled to the Carlton Reserve, near his home in North Port, Florida. There he shot himself in the head. He also writes about that. “I’m ending it not because I’m afraid of being punished, but because I can’t handle having to go on without her for another day.”

In his notes, he still expresses regret, especially about what he did to his own family. “This is a shock for them but also a terrible sadness (sic)…” “Please don’t make it more difficult for them, this happened as an unexpected tragedy.”

Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie dominated the news for weeks last summer. The photogenic influencers gave their 169,000 followers a taste of the road trip the couple made with their van through the USA. Until disaster struck.

The family of 22-year-old Petito raised the alarm in early September after her boyfriend Brian Laundrie returned home to Florida without his girlfriend, refusing to disclose Petito’s whereabouts. A few days later, the man fled, shortly after the body of his girlfriend was found dead in a national park in Wyoming. Gabby had been strangled to death.
