After taxis, double-decker buses and wagons, Days of Wonder has now brought the cable car to the game board. In the fourth part of the city edition of “Ticket to Ride” we go to San Francisco and plan the most beautiful routes through the beautiful city. Past Alcatraz, quickly over to the Golden Gate Bridge and then off to South Beach. Of course, we also take a bunch of souvenirs with us, so that we can score points in the end.

We bought Ticket to Ride San Francisco ourselves.

For those who have never heard of “Zug um Zug”, I will give a small, rough overview of the rule. Because this part doesn’t reinvent the rules either and relies on what is good and familiar with a new, beautiful design.

For up to 4 people who want to travel to San Francisco, place the game board in the middle of the table and fill it with the souvenir tiles. Each person involved is then dealt 20 cable cars, two order cards and two transport cards. Five of the remaining transport cards are placed face up next to the game board.

The active person can then use one of three possible actions.

Draw two transport cards

Two cards can be drawn from the face-up display or from the draw pile. Alternatively – if available – a face-up joker card (ferry) can be taken into your hand.

Use/expand a route

The game board shows routes in different colors and lengths. To expand a route, the appropriate hand cards must be returned to the general supply, then your own cable cars are placed on the route. For example, for the route South Beach to Market Street you need two green hand cards. If a route at a point of interest is expanded with souvenir tiles, you receive the tile.

Draw a new order card

The order cards bring victory points at the end of the game, so it is important to successfully expand one or the other route and complete the orders during the game. However, each unfulfilled order card is worth minus points at the end of the game.

The end of the game begins as soon as one of the characters has only two or fewer cable cars left. Then the points for expanded routes, fulfilled task cards and collected souvenirs are counted.
