Valeriu Stoica, one of the ideologues of the PNL, but withdrawn from the foreground of politics, announced on Digi 24 on Wednesday that he had noticed the emergence of a compromise between the PSD and the PNL: the coupling of the parliamentary and administrative elections in 2024 “If they are been delayed, local party personnel, having achieved their local goals, no longer fight for national goals, which is not good. So, they will probably combine them.”
We recall that in 2024 there are four types of elections: European parliamentary, local, parliamentary and presidential. The first political leader who spoke publicly about the merger was Florin Cîțu, in March 2022, when he was still president of the PNL.
Stoica analyzed the evolution of the political scene one year after the creation of the PSD-PNL coalition, which he defined as “a coalition against nature”. Stoica said his first fear when creating the coalition, that of the growth of an anti-system party, had not materialised.
“After a year of coalition, I don’t see an increase in USR or AUR. I don’t notice a serious decrease in PSD and PNL. It means that the illusion that an anti-system party has a chance for rapid evolution is just an illusion. In these 30 years there have been many anti-system parties, but most of them have disappeared. This means that there is a stability of this political system. In the last ten years, a stability of the main parties, PSD and PNL, has been created. Any new anti-system party will not he has no chance of coming to power” said Valeriu Stoica.
He also said that another of his fears was related to “the PSD’s engulfment of PNL”. “I feared the unnatural alliance would erode both sides, but it didn’t happen. I thought the PSD would engulf PNL, but it didn’t happen. Both sides kept their strength in the territory,” he said.
Valeriu Stoica also said that, in his opinion, the PSD-PNL rotation at the head of the government scheduled for May 2023 will take place, and the PSD will take over the post of prime minister.
