Good news for Max Verstappen after the disappointing Saturday in Saudi Arabia. The Dutchman does not have to replace his gearbox and thus avoids a grid penalty for tonight’s Grand Prix. It will just start from P3.

The Dutchman was on his way to pole position for tonight’s grand prix during Q3 when he went a little too wide at the last corner and hit the wall. This not only meant that he could forget pole position, but also that he had a lot of damage to his car. Fortunately for the Dutchman, this damage does not mean that he has to replace the gearbox and he has to collect a grid penalty.

Hamilton from P1, Verstappen P3

As a result, Verstappen will simply start from third place, an unnecessary fact given that he was on his way to pole position with one corner to go. Hamilton and Bottas took full advantage of this. Both drivers went over the Dutchman. Hamilton will start, eight points behind in the world championship, two places ahead of Verstappen. This would be enough to lead the world championship alone.
