In the municipality of Sorocaba in the Brazilian province of São Paulo, doctors mistakenly injected two young children against the coronavirus. The babies had a fever, vomiting began, their legs were swollen and they were constantly crying.
After a few days, the children’s condition stabilized, although they had to spend more than a week in the hospital. Health Minister Vinicius Rodriguez visited the affected families to inform them about the incident and offered all the necessary assistance, writes CNN.
It is noted that the parents brought two-month-old Liz Victoria and four-month-old Miguel Fernanda for vaccinations at the first-aid post on December 2. They were supposed to receive a pentavalent vaccine that protects against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis C, and hemophilia B bacteria. Instead, the children were given the vaccine. Pfizer against COVID-19.
For example, a few hours later, little Liz had a high fever, which was not knocked out by medications, then vomiting began. The next day, at another medical center, doctors noted that this was a natural reaction to the vaccine, thinking about pentavalent. But on the same day, the mother received a call from the first-aid post and said that they had indicated incorrect information on her daughter’s vaccination card.
The girl was sent to the hospital and has been doing well ever since. According to the mother, Liz will be under medical supervision for seven days, every 48 hours she will be tested. So far, no examination has revealed any changes in the child’s body.
“I know that everyone makes mistakes, but such a mistake is unacceptable. I do not want to harm the nurse, but I want this to serve as a warning to other health workers and other mothers: ask them to confirm what exactly they are using for your child,” urged the mother girls Anna Claudia.

The boy Miguel, who was injected with the wrong vaccine, was served by the same nurse. The child’s mother, Ketilline Fernanda, noted that on the same day both of the baby’s legs were swollen, he could not move and cried. Also had a high fever.
The next day, the city hall car took the child to the hospital. According to his mother, Miguel started to foam, his mouth turned purple, and it was difficult for him to breathe. But now he feels good.
The city’s health department contacted the State Center for Epidemiological Surveillance, the Ministry of Health and the vaccine manufacturer. According to the instructions of these institutions, children will remain under medical supervision for 10 to 15 days.
Sorokaba City Hall announced an open disciplinary administrative proceeding (PAD) to investigate the case. The vaccination nurse was removed from the injection treatment room pending review and evaluation of the steps to be taken.
