Brazil. Bolsonaro sees two key ministers leave his government

The Minister Brazilian Defense Fernando Azevedo e Silva created a surprise by announcing on Monday March 29 that he was leaving his post, a few hours after the resignation, she expected, of another key government minister Bolsonaro, the chef de la diplomatie Ernesto Araujo.

“I thank the President of the Republic, to whom I have been entirely loyal during this period of more than two years […] and I am leaving the ministry with the certainty of having accomplished my mission ”, Mr. Azevedo e Silva said in a statement, without specifying the reason for his departure.

According to the Globonews news channel, the Minister of Defense left his post at the request of the Head of State, who announced his decision to him during a meeting of only five minutes.

Former Chief of Staff, Fernando Azevedo e Silva had held a key position during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The coronavirus fiasco

Shortly before this announcement which took all observers of course, a government source had confirmed to theAFP that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ernesto Araujo, had tendered his resignation.

This resignation was however expected, due to the growing pressure since last week from parliamentarians to request the departure of the head of diplomacy, implicated in Brazil’s anti-coronavirus policy fiasco, which exceeded 312,000 deaths in one year.

Several parliamentarians who are allies of the government hold him responsible for the delays in deliveries of imported doses of anticovid vaccines and the active ingredients used to manufacture them.

“Many mistakes have been made in the fight against the pandemic, one of them is the lack of productive diplomatic relations with countries that could have collaborated with Brazil at this time of crisis”, deplored the President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, last week.

Another key minister left the Bolsonaro government two weeks ago: that of Health, General Eduardo Pazuello, replaced by cardiologist Marcelo Queiroga. He is the 4th Minister of Health since the start of the pandemic in Brazil.
