Brunswick. Public insurance and the University of Fine Arts (HBK) present the interdisciplinary exhibition project “Close to Touch” from 7 December. The public insurance company announced it on Friday. The exhibition of students from different courses of the HBK and TU Braunschweig under the supervision of Eku Wand (Studio Digitale Medien in the Visual Communication course) allows you to enter virtual worlds experienced with VR glasses and hand controllers.
The exhibition invites both inexperienced and experienced visitors to make their own VR experiences. Thanks to existing technology, it should be possible to fully immerse yourself in the worlds designed by HBK students in the center of the public entrance area. These included interpretations by experimental science fiction author JG Ballard and Michael Ende’s ‘Momo’ with her sense of time, as well as walking through mazes of color and shape, virtual interactive ‘escape rooms’ or sensing light in a way playful and unusual way.
The opening event is scheduled for December 7th
“The creative handling of technological and multimedia extensions such as 3D glasses and hand controllers is conceptually based on the experience of the last 30 years – one could even speak of multimedia 3.0,” said Eku Wand, who initiated and supported the project. “Those who can create meaningful and reliable ideas through the integration of artificial intelligence will be the winners of this new virtual territory,” she believes. Setting new development trends requires courage and a willingness to take risks. “We must be careful that Germany, as a country of poets, thinkers and engineers, does not saw off the branch we are all sitting on together through excessive regulation. I am extremely grateful to the public for encouraging and supporting the curiosity and creativity at our art school, precisely because the future can’t always be predicted,” said Wand.
The official opening event is scheduled for December 7 from 18:00 to the public. Admission is free, they said. The number of seats is limited and prior registration for the vernissage is therefore required via the following link: www.oeffentliche.de/virtualreality. The exhibition will then be able to be visited from December 8 to 20 without prior registration, he said. It will be permanently supervised by students who will help with the technology.
