Brann, svelvik | Police confirm findings of remains after the fire in Svelvik

Forensic scientists from the police and Kripos have found remains after the house fire on Monday night.

On Tuesday morning, the police began their investigations into the tragic fire that has claimed four lives.

Around 12 o’clock, the police confirm that forensic technicians have found remains of those who died on the fire site.

– We have today made finds of remains on the fire site. We can not say anything about how many have been found or their identity, says police station chief at Drammen police station Øyvind Aas in a press release.

It was NRK who mentioned the news first.

The police will continue the work throughout the day with the goal of finding all the dead, in addition to carrying out investigative tasks that can answer the cause of this tragic fire, Aas further states.

Initiated search

On Tuesday morning, forensic technicians from the police started a search of the fire site at Berger in Svelvik, where a family of four has been missing since the detached house burned to the ground Monday night.

– Before we can start work at the scene, we must be sure that it is safe for our employees to work there, said Øyvind Aas, police station chief at Drammen police station, in a press release.

Due to the heat, it was not possible to search the fire ruins on Monday.

– The goal is to find those who we believe have been in the house, Aas pointed out to NTB in the morning hours on Tuesday.

The police used excavators to remove building material so that the investigators could start a search. They are also hoping to find the cause of the fire.

– It is a very demanding job, especially when it is as burnt down as it is here, says the police station chief.

The house has burned to the ground, and what has not been taken by the flames has collapsed. The police are prepared to work on site for several days.

– We will continue for as long as we can and may have to continue in the coming days. It is a painstaking job, Aas explains.

Family of four

Two adults and two children are believed to have died after the fire.

Among the dead is a fire constable at the Drammen region’s fire service IKS.

The family’s relatives and colleagues of the fire constable are taken care of by crisis teams.

The online newspaper spoke with a deeply affected fire chief Torgeir Andersen on Monday:
