Boycotts Advertisements, Facebook Boss Property Missing IDR 102.7 Trillion

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Wealth Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder shrank US $ 7.2 billion or equivalent to Rp102, 7 trillion after a number of companies boycotted advertisements on Facebook.

In the New York Post report said the giant social media company shares also fell 8.3 percent since Friday (26/6) yesterday. The decline was mainly due to the action of Unilever as one of the advertisers stating to stop selling their products on Facebook.

Unilever joins other large companies such as Verizon Communications, Hershey Co. and Honda to pull their ads from Facebook. Not only that, the beverage giant Coca Cola also suspended advertising on all social media platforms, including Facebook for one month.

The decline in stock prices then eliminated the market value of Facebook by US $ 56 billion. While Zuckerberg’s net worth fell to US $ 82.3 billion, according to the report Insidehook.

This condition makes Zuckerberg’s position dropped one rank to fourth position as one of the world’s richest people. He is now under Louis Vuitton boss Bernard Arnault, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

Quoting CNN, boycott is a form of protest after Facebook is considered to have failed to overcome the utterance of hatred on its social media platform. There are at least 12 large companies that are boycotting Facebook.

Unilever said in a statement it would withdraw and boycott ads on Facebook until the end of 2020.

“Currently continuing advertising on this platform (Facebook) will not be useful for the community. The complexity of the cultural landscape is currently putting a brand’s new responsibility on learning, responding and acting to drive a secure digital ecosystem,” Unilever said.

Then The North Face said it was boycotting Facebook via Twitter. Their decision also applies to Facebook’s Instagram social media network.

“The North Face stops all activities and paid advertising in the United States with Facebook until a more stringent policy to stop racist content, violence, hatred and untrue information circulating on the platform,” reads a statement from The North Face.
