Boulterová – Ka. Pliskova 6:1, 6:7, 3:6, Payback for Wimbledon! Plíšková started with a win after the change of coach

The 30-year-old Plíšková avenged her four-year-younger opponent’s elimination in the 2nd round of Wimbledon a month ago, having previously lost to Boulter at the tournament in Eastbourne. Both now have an identical mutual balance of two wins and two defeats. Today Plíšková managed a big turnaround, even though she made 16 double faults.

“I’m glad I got through. It’s always a tough match against Katie, I’ve lost to her twice in a row. She’s a dangerous player, she has strong weapons and serves well. Sometimes it’s not even about me, but what about her will allow,” Plíšková said in an interview on the court.

Plíšková, the 15th ranked player in the world, did not start well and lost her serve three times from 1:1. Boulter won five games in a row and took the first set in 28 minutes. “Katie played a very good first set, she was strong and didn’t give me much time for my game,” said Plíšková.

However, in the second set, thanks to two breaks, she took a 4-0 lead and was still leading 5-1. But then she lost four games in a row and didn’t even use the third opportunity to serve out the set with a 6:5 lead. It was only in the shortened game that Plíšková worked out a set point and forced a continuation.

In the decisive set, the Czech tennis player broke her opponent’s serve three times and after two hours and fifteen minutes, secured her promotion. She had eight aces with 16 double faults. “The bad thing is that I lost to her twice in a row, because then you don’t want to play that kind of opponent again. But the good thing was that I knew what I did wrong. We focused on how to serve or return.” Plíšková added.
