KOMPA.com – Oppo A17 officially launched in Indonesia on Thursday (20/10/2022). As the name suggests, the Oppo A17 is the successor of Oppo A16.
The Oppo A16 itself was launched in Indonesia in July 2021. Although its successor has been released, Oppo has claimed that the Oppo A16 will still exist in the Indonesian market.
“As long as there is demand from the market, it will still be produced,” Aryo Meidianto, PR Manager of Oppo Indonesia told reporters. KompasTekno.
As a successor, the Oppo A17 is definitely equipped with various improvements that the Oppo A16 does not have, one of which is the back design which now adopts leather-like materials such as the Reno 7 4G and the Oppo A77s.
However, these two Oppo A series phones also have many similarities, one of which is chipset Mediatek Helium G35 carried by the two devices.

Design and camera
By design, the appearance of Oppo A16 and Oppo A17 is very different. The Oppo A16 adopts a glossy clamshell look like most modern phones.
Meanwhile, the Oppo A17’s shell design is more elegant because it carries materials reminiscent of leather textures such as the Oppo Reno 7 4G and the Oppo A77s.
In addition to the body, the design of the rear camera module of the Oppo A17 is also much more aesthetic than the Oppo A16.
While the Oppo A16 has a square camera module that houses several camera lenses, the Oppo A17 does not have a camera module.
The rear camera of the Oppo A17, which is larger than the camera of the Oppo A16, appears to be incorporated into the body of the phone.
Still talking about the back of the device, the number of rear cameras of the Oppo A16 is actually higher than that of the Oppo A17. However, the main camera of the Oppo A17 is more capable than the Oppo A16.
The Oppo A16 is equipped with three rear cameras, each with a resolution of 13 MP, 2 MP (macro) and 2 MP (mono), while the rear camera of the Oppo A17 has two, each with a resolution of 50 MP and 2 MP (mono).
Moving on to the front, the screen shapes of the Oppo A16 and Oppo A17 are similar and both have a size of 6.5 inches with Full HD Plus resolution.

However, the Oppo A17’s screen looks a bit larger because it has an 89.8% screen-to-body ratio. The screen of the Opo A16 has an 88.7% screen-to-body ratio.

Hardware And Software

Both phones are powered chipset Mediatek Helio G35 combined with RAM up to 4GB and storage media (Storage) 64 GB. The battery capacity of the two phones is also the same, which is 5,000mAh.
The difference is in the appearance Software. Since it was released last year, the Oppo A16 still runs the Android 11 operating system (OS) which is optimized with the ColorOS 11.1 interface (UI). On the other hand, Oppo A17 already runs Android 12 OS with ColorOS 12.1 UI.
Another thing different is in terms of connectors, where the Oppo A16 already uses a modern USB-C connector, while the Oppo A17 still uses the old microUSB connector.
