Botass wins the qualification and wins the 15th “pole position” – Motorsport – Auto

Botass won in the last round when he decided to check the limits of his car. The pilot traveled the track in one minute and 13.609 seconds.

Significantly, the time shown by Botas is well ahead of what was previously possible for pilots. The last time the F-1 race took place on the Imola track was in 2004, but that year Jenson Button reached the fastest time in the qualification, finishing in a minute and 19,753 seconds. Two years earlier, the famous Michael Schumacher won the qualifier with a time of one minute and 21,091 seconds.

Bot teammate Lewis Hamilton was 0.097 seconds slower, but in the third position, despite technical adversity at the end of the second qualifier, was Max Verstapen of Red Bull.

Verstapen will be joined on Sunday by Pierre Gasli (“Alpha Tauri”), followed by Daniel Richtero (“Renault”), Alexander Albon (“Red Bull”), Charles Leclerc (“Ferrari”), Daniel Quyat (“Alpha Tauri”) and two McLaren pilots Lendo Norris and Carlos Sains.

Another unsuccessful qualification was carried out by Sebastian Vettel from Ferrari, the German in 14th place.

Meanwhile, the organizers have decided to change the usual order in F-1 competitions. The usual training trips did not take place on the Imola track on Friday, which ends with the third session on Saturday. Instead, the pilots went to the track for the first time on Saturday and were entitled to one training, followed by a qualification.

Hamilton showed the fastest time in the only training.

The curves of the Imola track cause problems for many pilots, which was especially visible in the training sessions, because several riders were not able to fit within the limits of the track, therefore lap times were not counted.

Hamilton is convincingly heading towards his seventh title, scoring 265 points in 12 stages. Valteri Botass, who has 179 points, is behind the court with three victories, and Max Verstapen is third with 162 points.

This season it was planned to hold a record number of races (22), but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the organizers have now confirmed the progress of 17 stages.

Last season, Hamilton was crowned world champion, triumphing for the sixth time in his career and for the third time in a row.
