Botafogo Striker Tiquinho Soares Injured, Out of Copa Sudamericana Match Against LDU

Botafogo will not have striker Tiquinho Soares for the duel against LDU, for the fifth round of the Group stage of the Copa Sudamericana, this Tuesday, at 11 pm. The club reported that the striker is treating an injury and will undergo more detailed examinations on his return to Rio de Janeiro, but did not explain what the problem was.

The number 9 is the team’s top scorer this season, with 17 goals scored in 27 matches, and also the top scorer in the Brazilian Championship, with six balls in the net. Without him, Janderson is the center forward against the Ecuadorian team.

Botafogo and LDU have a decisive duel for a direct spot in the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana. Tied at eight points at the top of Group A, whoever wins virtually guarantees leadership of the group. A draw leaves Glorioso in front for goals before the last round, in which they face Magallanes at Nilton Santos, while the Ecuadorian team faces César Vallejo at Casa Blanca.

In 2023, the regulations of the Sudamericana provide that only the first place in each group will advance directly to the round of 16. The second-placed team plays in a playoff against one of the teams eliminated in the Libertadores group stage. Matches will be decided by draw.
