The Boston marathon is canceled this year. The authorities in New England do not consider it sensible to catch up with the April canceled event sometime in the coming months due to the corona crisis.
The Boston Marathon was originally scheduled for April 20, but was canceled at the time. The organization then aimed on September 14, but that date can now also be a streak.
“Our top priority is the health of the community, staffers, participants, volunteers, spectators and supporters,” organization chairman Tom Grilk said in a statement Thursday.
It is only the first time in 124 years of history that the Boston marathon is canceled. In recent years, there have usually been 30,000 participants at the start and half a million visitors along the line.
There will be a virtual edition of the Boston Marathon, which was first held in 1897 after the success of the marathon at the first modern Games of 1896. The 2021 marathon is scheduled for April 19.
The United States is the country most affected worldwide by the corona pandemic. More than 100,000 fatalities have occurred so far, and more than 1.5 million people have been infected with COVID-19.
