The world of professional and college basketball is mourning the loss of a young star.
Terrence Clarke, 19, was killed in a car accident in Los Angeles on Thursday, the University of Kentucky confirmed in a statement Thursday night.
Clarke, a Boston native, had recently finished his freshman season with the Wildcats and declared for the 2021 NBA draft last month.
“I’m absolutely heartbroken and sick tonight,” Kentucky head coach John Calipari said in the statement. “A young man we all love has just lost his life too soon, one with all his hopes and dreams ahead of him. Terrence Clarke was a beautiful young man, someone who controlled the space with his personality, smile and playfulness. People gravitated toward him, and hearing that we’ve lost him is hard for everyone to understand at this point. We are all in a state of shock, “he added.
“Terrence’s classmates and brothers loved him and are absolutely devastated. They know that we are here for them for whatever they need. “
The Kentucky basketball team’s official Twitter account posted a tribute to Clarke on Thursday night.
