Graz (OTS) – In 2021, Grazer Merkur Versicherung not only invested in new jobs and talents, but also in digital infrastructure and data science. More than 100 new employees were hired, the Innovation Lab, founded in 2020, has now developed into a training hub for specialists and has doubled its staff.

In order to counteract the much-cited shortage of skilled workers, creative solutions, the courage to innovate and, above all, trust in one’s own strengths are needed. Merkur Versicherung, which invested heavily in new jobs in 2020 and put resources into the training of specialists, is consistently pursuing this path and was able to record around ten percent more new hires in the past year compared to the previous year. The traditional insurer hired a total of more than 100 new employees in 2021. In a year that was still characterized by uncertainty and limited planning.

“We decided to take this ongoing situation as an opportunity for the future, to develop new possibilities as a team, learned a lot and created the basis for tomorrow with confidence and trust in our own strengths. With this culture of enabling, we as an employer also assume the necessary responsibility in terms of the business location,” explains Ingo Hofmann, CEO of Merkur Versicherung.

Innovation from within

The Merkur Innovation Lab, founded in autumn 2020, has developed from a future idea into a think tank and has now established itself as a training hub that promotes international talent and trains specialists in the fields of data science and software development. The group’s own start-up started with four colleagues, a year later eight employees are already working in the data workshop, which also offers its knowledge externally and has made a name for itself in the start-up scene.
