If you don’t like U2, that gives you at least one point in common with its singer. Bono has indeed just declared that there was not much to save from the beginnings of his group, starting with his voice.
“I was in the car when one of our first songs came on the radio and I went scarlet. I was so uncomfortable,” he said on the Awards Chatter podcast. Hollywood Reporter, relayed by The Times.

And the texts don’t find favor in his eyes either. “I think U2 have pushed the limits of embarrassment quite a bit and maybe that’s where you have to be as an artist, you know, just at the limit of your level of embarrassment. And it’s the same with the lyrics. I have the feeling that on Boy (their debut record) and other albums, we had unique and original material, but I don’t feel like I’ve finalized the details, and when I look back, I’m like, ‘My God’” , he added with a touch of humor.
If he feels he has improved over the years – especially with the album Vertigo, the one of which he is “most proud”, in 2004 – and knowing how to sing only “recently”, one thing does not change: he hates the name of his group. “Even today, I really don’t like him. I was in a kind of dyslexia. I also didn’t realize The Beatles was a bad name too. In our mind, it was like a spy plane, U-boat, it was futuristic. (…) Paul McGuinness, our first manager, said ‘Listen, it’s a great name, it’ll look good on a t-shirt, a letter and a number’”, explains Bono.
It is clear that, despite the criticisms of its leader, U2 has sold, since its beginnings in 1976 in Dublin, many albums and t-shirts all over the world.
