Bonil cartoon received insults from the Twitter account of the Human Rights Secretariat | Policy | News

The column by Xavier Bonilla, known as Bonil, published on July 1 on the social networks of EL UNIVERSO, received a message with insults from the official Twitter account of the Government’s Human Rights Secretariat.

Bonil’s caricature shows the legend “Next chapter…” and is accompanied by the image of a hand holding a piece of wood with a nail embedded in the end, with which the phrase “Impunity” is written on it. a blank notebook.

The drawing was uploaded to the Diario’s Twitter account at 07:30 and shortly after, the following message was sent from the Secretary’s account: “Hey, cartoonist of eyesore, dedicate that to your master, the inept and cowardly one who hides in Carondelet”.

The Secretariat deleted that publication, but before that, several users took screenshots, which later revealed what happened.

At 08:35, the Secretariat released an official statement in which it reported that the account “was hacked” on Friday morning. “The publication that was made does not reflect the thinking and values of this institution,” reads the statement.

Three hours later, at 11:28, the Human Rights institution shared an update in which it no longer talks about a “hack”, but about a violation of the social network.

According to this extension, an investigation was carried out and the alleged perpetrator was identified, who would not currently be linked to the Secretariat.

The government entity announced that it will undertake all the corresponding legal actions, “in order to avoid any misinformation and/or distortion of the actions carried out by this Secretariat and that are framed in the respect and exercise of human rights,” he indicated.

Bonil, for his part, announced that he received a call from someone who identified himself as a communication official from the Secretariat, who informed him that the alleged person responsible for the tweet had been separated from the institution on Thursday, due to poor performance. That this subject went to the offices on Friday to deliver the access codes, but that he had forgotten a device at his house, with the session open.

The cartoonist replied that the problem is not that the president or the author of the image is insulted, since freedom of expression is exercised.

Bonilla maintains that the drawback is that an “official with that human relationship and that emotional intelligence is not a guarantee of equanimity and impartiality that is required in a State agency, which must defend the rights of all citizens.”

It will remain attentive to the administrative procedure to which it gives rise. “Only in this way will we believe that, effectively, corrective measures have been taken,” he observed. (YO)
