Bogor, West Java – Emergency classrooms have been established at SMKN Cileungsi 1 in Bogor, west Java, after roofs collapsed during school hours on Tuesday, September 9th, injuring 30 students. The Primary and Secondary Education Ministry responded by deploying three tents to serve as temporary learning spaces while repairs are underway.
“Our ministry has prepared tents for pupils to study while awaiting the reparation process. Despite this emergency situation, we hope that these tents will truly be helpful for learning activities,” stated Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti during an inspection of the school on Thursday.
Repairs to the three damaged buildings are projected to be completed by December 15,2025,with a budget of Rp2 billion (approximately US$121.3 thousand) allocated for the work.
Following the incident, SMKN Cileungsi 1 initially shifted to fully online learning until Friday, September 12th. Headmaster Meisye Yeti announced the school will transition to a hybrid learning model starting Monday, September 15th, utilizing the tents alongside undamaged classrooms. This blended approach is especially crucial for 11th and 12th-grade students who require hands-on practical training.”Learning activities on Thursday and Friday will remain fully online, but starting Monday, students will attend both online and offline classes alternately, because some lessons cannot be done remotely and must take place at school,” Yeti explained. The roof collapse occurred at 9:15 a.m. local time, resulting in minor to moderate injuries to 30 students; some remain under treatment at Radjak Hospital in Cileungsi.
