Boeing wins contracts to deliver more than 1,000 missiles to Riyadh

Boeing won two contracts worth more than $ 2 billion on Wednesday to deliver more than 1,000 surface-to-air and anti-ship missiles to Saudi Arabia, the Pentagon announced on Wednesday. A first contract of 1.972 billion dollars (1.82 billion euros) relates to the modernization of the cruise missile SLAM ER of Boeing Defense, as well as the delivery of 650 copies “in support of the government of Saudi Arabia”, specifies the Pentagon in the document which announces daily the contracts concluded by the Ministry of Defense. The contract must be completed in December 2028.

The SLAM ER is a GPS-guided air-to-ground cruise missile with a range of up to 155 nautical miles (approximately 290 kilometers).

The Pentagon also announced a contract of nearly 660 million dollars (610 million euros) to deliver a new version of the Harpoon anti-ship missile, known as Block II, of which more than 400 to Saudi Arabia. Others will be delivered to Brazil, the Netherlands, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Qatar and India.

A command to restart production of SLAM ER

In a separate statement, Boeing says these contracts will not only ensure continued production of the Harpoon until the end of 2026, but also allow the SLAM ER production line to be restarted. The manufacturer specifies that it delivered its last missile of this type in 2008.

He estimates the total amount of contracts at 3.1 billion dollars (2.86 billion euros) taking into account an order previously announced, said a spokesperson for the company.
