Boeing to test flight 737 Max on Monday – E24

The flight on Monday, with US aviation authorities present, is a step in getting the Boeing 737 Max back into the air.

MAY BE BACK: US authorities are considering whether the accident-hit aircraft type will be allowed to fly again.

Pilots and cabin crew from Boeing and US Aviation (FAA) will test the Boeing 737 Max within three days from Monday. It reports sources with knowledge of the Reuters case.

The testing is a step towards getting the 737 Max aircraft approved for use again after the aircraft type was put on the ground in March 2019.

An error in the MCAS control system, which is supposed to prevent the muzzle of the aircraft from going too high so that the plane crashes, is suspected to have contributed to two accidents where a total of 346 people died.

The tests over the next few days will, among other things, ensure that the MCAS system is robust enough to not experience the same error again.

Can be approved in September

Boeing has spent hundreds of hours in the preparation of the flight in the simulator and on a test aircraft. The flight on Monday is the official test that can lead to approval.

If the FAA considers that test flights are going well, they can approve new training for pilots. That means the planes will probably not be approved in the US until September, sources told Reuters.

The Canadian and European authorities will make their own assessments to enable the aircraft to operate in these areas as well. Then Boeing may need to make further changes, Reuters writes.

Testing is to take place in the state of Washington
