Boeing may deliver first 737 MAX since flight ban | Economy

The American aircraft manufacturer Boeing is allowed to deliver a new 737 MAX to a customer for the first time since the worldwide flight ban in March 2019, the American aviation authority FAA has confirmed. It issued an “airworthiness certificate” for one specimen.

The aviation authority lifted the US flight ban for the 737 MAX aircraft on November 18, but it inspects each finished aircraft individually before Boeing is allowed to deliver a copy to a customer.

According to Reuters news agency, Boeing has built approximately 450 737 MAXs since 2019, which are awaiting FAA approval. “We expect to have enough inspectors to meet Boeing’s planned delivery schedule in the near future,” said the FAA.

The authority did not release any information about Boeing’s precise plans to deliver the approved aircraft, and the aircraft manufacturer itself did not comment to Reuters.

The 737 MAX aircraft were grounded worldwide in March 2019 after two fatal crashes in a matter of months, killing 346.

The flight ban was lifted in the United States on March 18, but adjustments have yet to be made to the aircraft that were already operational and pilots must receive additional training. It may therefore take some time before the aircraft effectively transport passengers again.

The European aviation authority EASA expects to lift the flight ban in Europe around mid-January.
