Since the announcement of the Covid-19 pandemic, measuring body temperature in public places, including schools, has become increasingly common around the world. At Ādaži Primary School, on Wednesday, July 1, a temperature measuring device will be tested so that the school management, together with parents, will assess whether it will be necessary at the beginning of the new school year.
The body temperature measuring device in Ādaži Primary School is a gift from Edgars Bergholts, a member of the board of the company Baltijas Elektro Sabiedrība, to the school, where one of his three children also studies.
“Parents definitely know very well that when they go to kindergarten or school, a healthy child comes home sick in a couple of days. Not because there is Covid-19, but because someone has a cold,” says SIA “Baltijas Elektro Sabiedrība” Edgars Bergholcs, Member of the Board.
If a person with a high temperature enters the door, an audible signal sounds in the nurse’s office and a message appears on the computer screen of the person in charge.
At Ādaži Primary School, the temperature is currently measured by the Italian manufacturer LEF equipment, the full price of which, including installation, can reach up to 20 thousand euros. Such cameras are installed, for example, in Italian railway stations.
“We agreed to install for a temporary period. Now it’s summer, summer camps. We can test in a test mode on a small number of children. Let’s try to enjoy on your own skin. If that’s a good thing to happen!” says Maris Sprindžuks, Chairman of Ādaži District Council.
The head of the municipality admits that there are quite a few unclear issues. For example, whether the security of personal data will be respected.
“When this offer came, we really had a pile of questions on how to implement it, how we could, say, immediately diagnose these children as having a fever. What will be the next step so that the child doesn’t feel the way fairy tale, leper, “worries the director of Ādaži Secondary School Česlavs Batņa.
These and other issues must be decided by August 15, when the end of the trial period for gifts in Ādaži Primary School has been determined. For the protection of personal data, it is necessary to understand what will happen to the information recorded in the cameras.
“This device is stationary at the school and is not connected to any server. This means that the information does not go away from this room in the first place,” says Bergholz.
Like any surveillance camera, the personal data records of this device will be processed in accordance with security regulations. This device is not the only body temperature measuring device available in Latvia. And many of them are significantly cheaper.
CONTEXT:
In Latvia, on June 10, the emergency situation announced on March 12 to control the new coronavirus ended. The virus is still circulating and there are no drugs or vaccines against it, so a number of restrictions and precautions remain in place.
From July, events can bring together 1,000 people; from August, this ceiling will be – 3000 people. Restrictions inside depend on the size of the room. The two-meter distance is still valid. But mouth and nose covers are no longer mandatory on public transport.
