Bochum does not want to underestimate Cologne after the cup

Bochum (dpa) – Despite 1. FC Köln’s elimination from the cup, Bochum is preparing for a challenging Bundesliga game on Saturday (6.30 p.m. / Sky). “Cologne experienced a bitter end in the cup,” said VfL coach Thomas Reis on Friday about the DFB round of 16 between Cologne and second division soccer team Hamburger SV (3: 4). “But we shouldn’t be interested in that. They’ve already shown great performances in the league.”

VfL is currently in eleventh and 1. FC Köln in ninth place in the Bundesliga table. “They have completely internalized Baumi’s game philosophy,” Reis said of the Cologne team. “You can see that the team is pressing very hard, trying to put the opponents under pressure early on and forcing mistakes.”

Despite all the competition, the Bochum coach is also looking forward to meeting his Cologne colleague Steffen Baumgart: “We taught football together,” reports Reis. “He’s positively crazy. He shows full commitment, he’s shown that as a player.”
