Boasson-Hagen nears victory on wild Tour de France stage

Watch the ending in the video window at the top!

Edvald Boasson-Hagen sat in the breach that asked about the victory on Wednesday’s spin-wild stage in the Tour de France, but he froze.

– It’s fun to be part of the fight. It is always there in the Tour de France, especially when I should not really have been there, says Boasson-Hagen to TV 2.

– I was one of the first to go. We worked well together and it was a nice trip. It’s definitely sour. It is always sad to lose, especially when it is a long time ago. We can only try again, says the 35-year-old.

Boasson-Hagen went after when Neilson Powless tried to run with one kilometer left to the finish. Then the forces ended with a few hundred meters left, and the rudsbygdingen had to see Simon Clarke asked for the victory, while Taco van der Hoorn followed in second place.

– I had to be patient. When Powless went to, I prayed for someone else to panic before me. I tried to give Evald some room, and he swallowed the bait. Then I started looking for him, says Clarke.

It was first reported that Edvald Boasson-Hagen was one second behind the yellow leader’s jersey, but a raw strong finish by Wout van Aert kept the Belgian in the lead. Boasson-Hagen is number three in the summary, 14 seconds behind van Aert.

Danish predicament: Complete chaos in Jumbo-Visma

Jumbo-Visma in trouble

Edvald Boasson-Hagen got off to an early break with Magnus Cort and Taco van der Hoorn. Eventually, the trio was joined by Neilson Powless, Alexis Gougeard and Simon Clarke.

Boasson-Hagen and the six-man quarry got it much calmer over the first cobblestone sections than in the main field and the remains of it. Jumbo-Visma was in big trouble with both captains, Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard, who had accidents. Wout van Aert was also on the ground.

However, it was not just the Jumbo-Visma stars who had major problems. Alexander Kristoff, who was one of the favorites before the stage, punctured on the third cobblestone section with about 50 kilometers left to go. The Norwegian never came back in the battle for the stage victory.

In group two sat overall favorite Tadej Pogacar, and when Jasper Stuyven attacked in the third last cobblestone game, he got the Slovenian phenomenon. Stuyven and Pogacar took up the hunt for Boasson-Hagen and the rest of the break, but it did not go for the duo.

– I should be colder

Four riders from the original six-man fracture entered the race together. Simon Clarke was the strongest, winning ahead of Taco van der Hoorn and Edvald Boasson-Hagen. The Norwegian had to use force to catch up with Neilson Powless by one kilometer to the finish line.

– I think this is going on when I caught him again, but I froze in total when it was 300-400 meters left. That was sour. It was a good day out in the break, except for the last two kilometers. It was sour (not to win). I should have been a little colder there and waited. I was sure it had been driven anyway, so then it was just to “gunne” on, says Boasson-Hagen.

Jonas Vingegaard is 21 seconds behind Tadej Pogacar in the summary, while Primoz Roglic has over two minutes up to the compatriot.

Watch the sixth Tour de France stage from Binche to Longwy TV 2 and TV 2 Play Thursday from 12.00.
