Boas were also abused on Saturday; second incident in three days NOW

Two extraordinary investigating officers (boas) from the municipality of Ede were abused on Saturday afternoon during a detention in the Gelderland town, the municipality confirms in conversation with NU.nl on Tuesday evening.

The Boas were issuing a parking fine when a group of youths got involved and insulted them – according to the spokesperson without having anything to do with the parking fine – after which a struggle ensued between one of the youths and the enforcers.

When the boas tried to arrest the youngster, the suspect resisted and one of the enforcers sustained a head wound. Ultimately, the police were called in to assist and to arrest the man. He was released on Monday, but is still suspected of assault. It is not yet known whether the boas also formally report the abuse.

On Tuesday, boas protested in various municipalities in the Netherlands. They called on Minister Ferd Grapperhaus (Justice and Security) to equip them with a baton and pepper spray. Because the extraordinary investigating officers are not allowed to carry these aids with them, many boas registered, among other things Rotterdam no fines between Thursday and Saturday in protest.

The reason for Tuesday’s protest was the mistreatment of two boas by a group of young people on the beach of Thursday IJmuiden. One of them had to go to the hospital because of facial injuries.
