BMW Superbike for toys. Lego made it from 1920 cubes, it also has a functional gearbox

Lego has introduced several elaborate cars in its Technic line in recent years, but it has practically not devoted itself to motorcycles. On the very first day of 2022, however, there will also be lovers of one track. The set from which enthusiasts will be able to build a BMW M 1000 RR superbike will go on sale. And it will not be a crumb, but a 45-centimeter replica.

A few years ago, Lego fully threw itself into adult building sets and every year it presents several sets in various series, which in size, complexity and price significantly exceed the commonly available sets for smaller and larger children. You can buy models of the Camp Nou football stadium, where he plays his matches Barcelona, the Roman Colosseum, piano, typewriter or electric guitar. And cars for several years now. What started with one Volkswagen Beetle has gradually grown into a number of models.

These differ from each other not only in size, but also in price and amount of often functional details. At the top of the pyramid are cars from the Technic series, which has so far featured, for example, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Bugatti Chiron, Land Rover Defender or Lamborghini Sián FKP 37. In all cases, these were kits with several thousand cubes, 40 centimeters or more and the price in the order of thousands of crowns (for example, Bugatti and Lamborghini are without discounts at the level of ten thousand). Now, for the first time, a similarly large motorcycle is being added to cars.

The choice fell on the BMW M 1000 RR superbike, by the way the first single-track vehicle of the M division of the Munich manufacturer. Lego produced a 1: 5 scale model, which consists of a total of 1920 cubes. The motorcycle is 45.5 cm long, 27.7 cm high and 17 cm wide. For comparison, the mentioned Lamborghini Sian in a scale of 1: 8 is composed of 3696 cubes and has a length of about 60 cm.

As with other Lego Technic models, BMW also features functional features. Probably the most complicated is the three-speed gearbox, but its operation can only be fully monitored after the electric motor has been connected. He is producing Lego, but it is not in this set. In addition to the transmission, there is also the possibility to turn the front wheel, even the front and rear suspension are functional. The engine replica has movable pistons and of course the chain is in gold as on a real motorcycle.

BMW also draws attention to the possibility of three different displays on the instrument panel, but these are only sticker parts that can be interchanged. After all, in order for the designers to achieve the most faithful appearance possible, a lot of white parts are glued with stickers in a typical blue-red combination of Division M. It is also worth mentioning Technic series) are really huge.

The BMW M 1000 RR model will go on sale on January 1, 2022 for 5299 crowns. At first, the kit will be available only in the official Lego online store, from March 1 it will be possible to buy it from other retailers. In addition to the motorcycle itself, the set also includes a racing block in which the motorcycle can be placed, or a pedestal on which the motorcycle can be placed. For lovers of technical data, there is also a table with basic information – that is, the real stand has an output of 156 kW, accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.1 seconds and travels a maximum of 306 km / h. In the Czech Republic, the motorcycle costs at least 870 thousand crowns.

Let us remind you that this is not the very first motorcycle from Lega, but the largest and best developed so far. Already in 2017, the Technic series offered a miniature BMW R 1200 GS Adventure with a length of 33 cm and composed of 603 pieces. The price was approximately 3.5 times lower than the current novelty, but the model was also much less elaborate. In 2019, the Harley-Davidson chopper Fat Boy, composed of 1,023 cubes and over 33 cm long, followed in the Creator series. It was also cheaper than the BMW M 1000 RR, the recommended price was 2299 crowns. So far, the last single-track machine in the Danish company’s offer is the Ducati Panigale V4 R from the Technic series, introduced last year. It consists of 646 cubes and is over 32 cm long, at the same time it does not lack a functional two-speed gearbox or shock absorbers at the front and rear. You can also buy it here, the recommended price is 1599 crowns.

You can look at all four Lego motorcycles as well as some car sets from the Technic series in the gallery.
