BMW Digital Key Plus offers customers a convenient and secure keyless entry system.
Munich. As one of the pioneers in the use of the smartphone as a digital vehicle key since 2018, BMW is pressing ahead with the development and distribution of the BMW Digital Key with the functions already available for iPhone users. The premium car manufacturer is now developing a convenient and safe way to unlock and start the car without having to take the iPhone out of your pants or carrier pocket. The next stage of expansion of the service is based on ultra-wideband technology (UWB), which is integrated on the U1 chip of the iPhone. The BMW Digital Key Plus is introduced with the fully electric BMW iX.
Ultra-wideband as the basis for more comfort and security.
The additional features now included in the BMW Digital Key Plus are made possible by ultra-wideband technology. This is a digital radio technology for close range with high bandwidth, which is characterized by an extraordinarily precise localization with the greatest possible security. The precision of UWB also ensures that relay attacks in which the radio signal is disturbed or intercepted are not possible. Apple and BMW worked closely with the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) to establish the Digital Key Specification 3.0 for UWB, which is a global standard for the automotive industry.
