The global theatrical release date for the highly anticipated “Bluey” movie has been set for August 6, 2027, Disney and BBC Studios announced today.
Based on the Emmy and BAFTA award-winning Australian animated children’s series, the film will follow the adventures of Bluey, a blue heeler pup, and her family. Following its theatrical run, the movie will stream on Disney+ and ABC iview and ABC Kids in Australia.
Created by Joe Brumm, the film will be directed by Brumm and Richard Jeffrey, with Amber Naismith producing. melanie Zanetti and David McCormack will reprise their roles as Bluey’s mother, Chilli, and father, Bandit, respectively. Joff Bush will compose the score.
The movie is a Ludo Studio production, with Brumm, charlie Aspinwall, and Daley Pearson for Ludo Studio, and Justine Flynn for BBC Studios serving as executive producers. Disney’s David Greenbaum will oversee the film.
As its 2018 debut, “Bluey” has become a global phenomenon, ranking as Disney+’s most-watched series worldwide in 2024. The film will “continue the adventures of Bluey, a lovable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her Mum, Dad and her little sister, Bingo,” according to a press release.
BBC Studios is financing and licensing the film, with Walt Disney Studios handling theatrical distribution. The project receives support from the Australian government through the Producer Offset and Screen Australia, and from the Queensland Government via Screen Queensland’s Post, Digital and Visual Effects Incentive.
