In 2022 and 2023, the City of Marseille joined forces with the City of Dakar for a project co-financed by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs which works for the menstrual health of young girls in Marseille and Dakar. Combating menstrual insecurity through information, awareness-raising and empowerment of young girls helps reduce absenteeism and school dropout, but also deconstructs preconceived ideas and taboos surrounding the subject of periods..
This project has an environmental dimension and offers workshops for making reusable sanitary towels, in an eco-responsible approach as an alternative to disposable protection. Several Marseille associations (Le Planning Familial 13, Coeur de Cagoles and Les Petits Débrouillards PACA) have joined the project to be able to offer a menstrual health kit, a tool intended for professionals to organize different workshops around the menstrual cycle but also the manufacture of reusable sanitary towels.
