«Blood Rain» – Kristiana Brekte’s solo exhibition will open on Halloween night / Article / LSM.lv

On October 31, Halloween evening, Kristina Brekte’s solo exhibition “Rain of Blood” will be opened in the gallery “Istaba”, where the audience will see a new expression of the artist’s creative activity, previously not seen in the exhibitions – graphic gravure series works in cold needle technique, gallery representatives informed.

Kristiana Brekte’s work in the Latvian contemporary art scene is characterized by diversity and reverence for the use of different materials and means of visual language expression, as well as the range of topics of interest to him. The theme of the exhibition “Rain of Blood” continues the artist’s search for the dark side of humanity and existence, man’s multifaceted nature and mysticism, which turns out to be more often present in everyday processes than it might seem.

The works of fine technique are based on three books of ghost stories by Māris Rungulis published by the publishing house “Big and Small” – “A Walk in the City of the Dead” (2016), “Three Days of Death” (2018) and “Rain of Blood” (2020) – by Brekte . By creating a visual decipherment of each of Māris Rungulis’ stories, Brekte has created a special system of images that can be equally fully perceived both in connection with the stories written by Rungulis and independently of them.

The series of original graphic works has not been shown to the public so far. The exhibition in the gallery Room will be open until November 21, curated by Auguste Petre.
