Research and development is carried out in the laboratory in Krems. The focus is on new approaches in the medical field. We work closely with university research institutions. Fresenius Medical Care Adsorber Tec, part of the global health care group Fresenius, also manufactures products for kidney and liver problems as well as for autoimmune diseases and severe allergies.
Toxins are supposed to be removed from the blood
The medical technology company specializes in blood purification outside the body, says managing director Wolfram Strobl to noe.ORF.at: “That sounds very bulky at first. It’s about getting blood out of the patient’s body – that is, passing it over pillars that bind certain toxins that may be in the blood. Then you give the patient back purified blood, so to speak. “
The processes developed by Fresenius Medical Care Adsorber Tec benefit people who have high cholesterol levels despite medication and a healthy lifestyle. The employees use miniature models to fine-tune medical products, such as how to bind toxins in the body. The materials are constantly being developed for this purpose.
Particular attention is paid to the selection of raw materials
The important thing is the selection of the raw materials that are then refined, emphasizes development group leader Frank Gebauer: “One of the basic materials is white powder, which we use for our product. These are small, highly porous granules – like a sponge. This sponge is changed in its entire surface so that it can remove what we want to remove from the blood. “
In-house, special packaging materials are designed for sensitive products. Because they have to withstand vibrations and differences in air pressure in the aircraft during transport, says the project manager for the technical service area, Christian Exinger: “We have developed a transport system for these sensitive components that can compensate for dust, solar radiation and temperature.” in Krems, the medical products are elaborately packaged before they are finally shipped to hospitals around the world.
