A specialist from St. Luke International University (USA) Yujiro Yokoyama traced the connection between drugs for hypertension and coronavirus… According to him, drugs with substances that bind to the ACE or AT1 receptor reduce the risk of complications from COVID-19.

During the height of the pandemic, local experts noticed that people who had previously taken similar drugs for high blood pressure on an ongoing basis, tolerated the disease much easier. Old people and those who had congenital diseases of the heart and blood vessels became infected more often and were sick more severely.

Therefore, according to Yokoyama, patients who have previously taken medications for hypertension should not stop doing so with coronavirus. Substances that bind to the ACE or AT1 receptor have a beneficial effect on the condition of the kidneys and heart.

The positive effect of drugs for hypertension, according to a number of experts, is due to the fact that these drugs neutralize the effect of the ACE2 protein. With the help of it, the coronavirus just gets into the body. Medicines for high blood pressure contain substances that affect the ACE protein, which is similar to the ACE2 protein.

Yokoyama and his colleagues did not conduct their own experiments, but studied 17 scientific articles about the effect of drugs for hypertension on covid. Scientists hope that their assumptions will be confirmed. And high blood pressure medications will help reduce SARS-CoV-2 deaths.
