Blood plasma does not seem to help recovery of corona, Erasmus MC halts study

Three quarters of the seriously ill corona patients already appear to make antibodies themselves. Therefore, administering antibodies from ex-covid-19 patients probably does not make much sense. According to the NOS, this is evident from an interim evaluation of the plasma research by Erasmus MC and the Sanquin blood bank. The trial is therefore temporarily halted.

According to lead researcher Bart Rijnders, the administration of plasma should be used more specifically. He is thinking of better pre-selection of patients and better timing.

The patients in the study had been sick for an average of ten days when they received plasma. Rijnders is therefore thinking of plasma administration in patients who are not admitted to a hospital or who have an increased risk of being admitted.
