The action runs from 3pm to 7pm. Booking appointments is important to avoid long waiting times for everyone and to ensure compliance with all hygiene measures. On the German Red Cross website, donors can find the so-called “donation check” to check in advance whether they can be allowed to donate blood. At the appointment itself, donors can also register as stem cell donors.

If you’re a first-time donor, you should spend a little more time – the DRK recommends planning at least an hour. Upon registration, all personal data will be checked. All donation data must always be accurately documented. For this, donors need a valid identity card and blood donor passport. Then body temperature, blood pressure and pulse are measured and the level of hemoglobin in the blood is checked. So all donors, not just first-time donors, fill out a medical history questionnaire. It is then checked whether the person is authorized to donate blood. Only then does the actual blood collection follow.
