While their lowest hours go through the parties that brought, or so they say, the “new politics” to this land of anti-democratic barbarians – Citizens disappeared from the Assembly of Vallecas and Podemos threatened by the old-new invention of Yolanda Díaz to change the name to things, trompe l’oeil that has proven its failure in the recent past, ask Manuela Carmena if not–, it seems that we have entered a new phase. I admit that this one I did not see coming. The phase, really disturbing, in which the political and media debate is sustained – it is submerged, rather, or buried, directly – around the contacts that our political leaders have blocked on WhatsApp. Which is partly logical.
Because the public debate must be encouraged with something in a country and in a region with hardly any problems. It is not as if, for example, we are still in the middle of a pandemic. Or as if we were hit by an economic crisis. This does not happen here. The unemployment figures already place us on the verge of full employment and the price of electricity is on the ground. In this context, it is normal for us to entertain ourselves with adolescent debates. As politics is now governed by trends, I am afraid that we will continue talking for more days about the “whatsapp war” and the contacts that President Ayuso has supposedly blocked on her mobile.
Although it is also possible, Hopefully, we talk about people’s problems. The unemployment, the light, the traffic jams, the terraces. We would thus prevent the political discussion from becoming more and more like a football gathering. And speaking of football and politics: can you imagine Simeone leaving Luis Suárez on the bench? Or Ancelotti without Benzema? I don’t think about it either. And it is a relief that this does not happen in our policy. Or if?
