The farmers’ campaign at the ice cream company of D66 Member of Parliament Romke de Jong in Gorredijk in Friesland is over after hours. Farmers prevented vehicles from driving to and from the ice factory site all day with some tractors. The farmers left around 9.45 pm.

According to a police spokesperson, there has been contact between the police and the farmers throughout the day. The father of politician De Jong, who manages the factory, said earlier today that the farmers demanded a conversation with his son about the nitrogen plans. But Romke de Jong said he would not comment on that. “Out of decency and mutual respect” he always wants to talk, the politician said, “but not in this way”.

The ice cream business was severely hampered by the farmer’s blockade. Buses could not leave the site. “As it stands now, that means that we cannot supply the Floriade today,” said De Jong senior this morning. In addition, the company would deliver ice cream to the Down the Rabbit Hole festival. Also, the company was unable to supply ice cream carts.
