Blizzard provides details on first major update World of Warcraft Shadowlands – Gaming – News

Coincidentally picked up again last month after having stopped during The Burning Crusade (first expansion).

At the time, I was done with it at level 63 after my entire high end raid gear set was suddenly overshadowed by uncommon items.

The game is especially interesting in my opinion if you like a nice story, like to grind achievements or just want to PvPen or PvEen with friends.

Personally, I don’t find the multiplayer content very attractive, with the exception of when you play this with friends over voice chat. And then it is especially laughing together that makes it fun. To me it feels way too repetitive (in PvE) and unbalanced (in PvP).

There are also a number of battlegrounds that completely miss the mark, for example intended for PvP, but would that take so long that a kind of “unwritten rule” arose where players simply ignore each other and run directly to the boss in a race who is the first. wins. Or another battleground where you practically win after capturing the first objective.

Why you should play is especially if you want to pull a nice single player through a gigantic (and visually fine if your computer can handle it) landscape and follow the story. (You can also play the storylines of previous expansions by talking to an NPC).
Leveling is a lot faster compared to vanilla and from personal experience you can be max level with about 3 hours a day in 2 weeks. (Can be much faster if you skipped all cinematics and only play main missions, but then you miss the best content as far as I am concerned). If you want to play all content from all expansions, you can of course invest a lot more time by, for example, leveling a new character. There are plenty of classes with their own playing style to discover.

Everything has also been made a lot more “casual”. Instances for which you previously had to take 1.5 hours to take a maximum of 20 minutes now (with a group skipping all unnecessary groups). Annoying to be attacked by other players every time while playing? This is off by default and has become opt-in, if it is on you will get bonus XP. Quest targets are simply shown on your minimap instead of having to find everything yourself. I think the latter can be switched off by the way, if that gives you a better experience.

(I describe here the elements that are new to me since the Burning Crusade.)
