Blitzer-Marathon 2022: Flashes are being used here today

Blitzer-Marathon 2022
Flashing here today

Since 2013, speed offenders have been hunted almost everywhere on Day X. Today is that day. We tell you where and when flashes are used.

lawn kills. Still. And again and again. Most of the 2,569 traffic deaths in the past year were due to “inadequate speed”. That’s why the police in large parts of Germany target speed offenders once a year. The first nationwide campaign of this kind was held in 2013. The last speed camera marathon took place on April 21, 2021 instead of.

The next speed camera marathon in Germany has been taking place since today, March 24th, starting at midnight or 6 a.m. The Europe-wide action known as “Operation Speed” is being coordinated by the European traffic police network Roadpol and will last 24 hours – so some of it will not end until March 25 at 6 a.m. The network wants to reduce the number of accident victims. It is therefore not about punishing as many speed sinners as possible, but rather about drawing attention to the dangers of racing.

As in previous years, not all federal states are involved. So far, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Hamburg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia have taken part in this year’s campaign. The other states have kept themselves covered with information in advance. In the remaining ones, on the other hand, thousands of officers will be deployed by the deadline.

The police will lie in wait nationwide on federal, state and district roads, avenues and motorways. Just like in 30 km/h zones in front of schools and kindergartens.

Not a rip-off, but an educational measure

While critics see the action as a rip-off, the police hope that the driving behavior of road users will change in the future and be adapted to the speed limits. In order to refute the accusation of rip-off, as in previous years, the checkpoints in most countries will be announced in advance. If you drive 21 to 30 km/h too fast within built-up areas, you will face a fine of 115 to 180 euros and a point in Flensburg. A driving ban usually only threatens if the speed is exceeded by 31 km/h.
