Blankenberge closed to day tourists on Sunday: ‘Time-o …

The city of Blankenberge will be closed to day tourists tomorrow. The city reports this in a press release.

‘Our city needs a time-out’, says mayor Daphné Dumery (N-VA) after the massive brawl on the beach. ‘That means that we want to keep day-trippers out of Blankenberge as much as possible tomorrow, Sunday 9 August. Only residents, second-time residents, multi-day overnight tourists and people who work in our city will be admitted. Police checkpoints will be set up along the approach roads. Anyone who arrives in Blankenberge will therefore have to have a valid reason to gain access to the city. We are trying to restore peace with this measure. ‘

“Most troublemakers have now been caught,” the press release reads. ‘Almost all of them have a laundry list of criminal offenses. So they are known to the court. ‘

In the press release, Dumery asks that no trains arrive on the territory between 9 am and 4 pm. ‘We have taken all possible measures locally to continue to guarantee safety within our powers. The higher authorities bear a great responsibility in this, we expect a clear signal. ‘
