In a stunning new cosplay recreating an iconic Mark Brooks cover, cosplayer @katrinavvera takes her place Black Widow become Captain America. The original cover was part of a series of variations that saw the artists do their own “What If…?” takes on different heroes becoming their version of Captain America. Brooks’ cover featured the Black Widow getting her own costume and shield – which is now recreated in real life in the awesome cosplay.
To celebrate Captain America’s 80th birthday in 2021, Marvel Comics released a series of variant covers featuring other popular heroes taking over. Marvel pulled out all the stops with the “What if…?” covers, including ones featuring Miles Morales as an Iban Coello and Alejandro Sanchez cover, Moon Knight getting his own Captain America costume in a variation of Pepe Larraz and Marte Gracia, the Fantastic Four dressing in a cover by Nick Bradshaw and Rachelle Rosenberg and Black Cat get their own Cap twist in a cover by Leinil Francis Yu & Sunny Gho. But, perhaps, the coolest Cape-remix came from artist Mark Brooks, who imagined Black Widow as the hero.
At his Twitter account, @katrinavvera shared her take on Mark Brooks’ cover art for Black Widow #9. The talented cosplayer has recreated the Black Widow/Captain America combo hero to perfection – bringing the hero to life with the black, white and red costume. Comic-accurate cosplay includes Black Widow Cap’s mask with her red logo, a costume with a red star on the chest, red and white stripes at the waist, and her own black, white, and red shield. The look also includes Black Widow’s gauntlets, which can be seen on the variant cover. Check out @katrinavvera’s (photo by @EddieBPhotos) cosplay side-by-side with Mark Brooks’ original cover.
@katrinavvera has a knack for bringing Black Widow’s comic book moments to life, as she’s done many cosplays of the character, including recreate a panel from Black Widow #6 by Kelly Thompson and Rafael de Latorre. Clearly, the cosplayer is a huge fan of the character, which becomes apparent once you watch her comic book recreations.
Artist Mark Brooks has done something incredibly cool with his remix of Black Widow and Captain America. So, it’s cool to see fans of the design bringing it to life. With its superb Black Widow/Captain America cosplay, @katrinavvera did the costume justice and showed how beautiful it could look in live-action.
