Black Friday is here. E-shops are setting a record, the CTIA has received dozens of complaints

The fact that the coronavirus pandemic, due to which a number of brick-and-mortar stores are closed, plays into the hands of online retailers are also confirmed by large e-shops addressed by the editors. “This year, more than a quarter more customers came to see the goods compared to last year. The number of transactions increased by half year-on-year and sales by up to 80 percent,” boasts Tomáš Pilský, CZC.cz’s sales director.

Although, according to him, interest in almost all goods is growing, compared to last year, the biggest jump is in demand for monitors, tablets and devices for smart homes. Wireless headphones, smart bracelets and various computer accessories – such as mice and keyboards – are also on sale.

“Given the current measures and the epidemic situation, we have been seeing for several weeks now that people are dealing with gift purchases more than ever on the Internet this year,” says Pavla Hobíková, a spokeswoman for the Mall.cz e-shop.

According to her, gifts are mainly bought in advance by women, who also buy more of them. According to her, sales of mobile phones, toys or clothes have been growing rapidly since the end of October. “These days, we process 40 percent more orders per day than last year. Compared to September, for example, it is even three times as much,” says Hobíková. Therefore, he expects this year’s Black Friday to be a record.

Alza.cz also reports a huge influx of shoppers. “In the first day of Black Friday alone, we achieved a turnover of more than 200 million crowns and the number of orders climbed to almost one hundred thousand,” Petr Bena, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, described for TN.cz. At peak times, people sent up to ten orders per second.

The most purchased for information was Amazon. “Black Friday together with Cyber Monday in Amazon are at the peak of the season, ie the pre-Christmas period, in which we handle more shipments than usual, and which we are preparing for practically throughout the year. Due to the peak, we have distribution center in Dobrovíz three thousand seasonal workers, “said Amazon spokeswoman Miroslava Jozová. Thanks to this, people do not have to be afraid that the ordered goods will not reach them in time.

Along with the way Czechs shop in droves on the Internet, they also complain about traders. “These are dozens of suggestions in recent days, in which consumers are complaining about the discount or Black Friday. It is possible that more will be added,” said CTI spokesman Jiří Fröhlich when asked by TN.cz.

People often complain that the original price quoted by the trader does not seem right to them, but according to Fröhlich they are not able to prove what they conclude. They also refer to various advertisements, which, however, are not overseen by trade inspections.

“I can’t tell specific companies, it’s possible after a possible inspection and then after it comes into force. These are mainly suggestions to online retailers, most purchases will be mainly online in terms of retail sales of non-food nature,” added Fröhlich.

They advise shoppers not to just look at how high a percentage discount is for the item they have chosen. He encourages them to look at the competition as well.

“For years, there have been reliable and independent sites in the Czech Republic that monitor the price and offer not only the final price, but also the customer experience,” advises a spokesman for the Trade Inspection Authority on how not to get burned when buying Christmas gifts.

E-shops have been doing well for many months due to the pandemic. More in the TV Nova report:
