Bill would help in the purchase of houses

Jacksonville, FL.- At the national level, there is a bill aimed at helping police officers, firefighters, first aid personnel and teachers, so that they can buy a home with fewer restrictions on financial requirements in the real estate industry.

In an effort to educate the community and gain their support, several professionals in Jacksonville met with government leaders, including Congressman and former Sheriff John Rutherford, to introduce the project locally.

DETAILS

The bill called the ‘HELPER Act’ was introduced in 2021 by Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff (Georgia) and Congressman Rutherford (Florida), in which, if approved, it would lower the cost of both the initial house payment and the monthly payments of the mortgage and eliminates the requirement of mortgage insurance.

“We’ve had massive support from a lot of people calling us and asking questions about the project, but it’s also important to try to reach and educate those in gray areas on the issue,” said Samuel Royer, a former military veteran and director of Heroes First Home Loans, a home loan company in Jacksonville.

SEEKING SUPPORT

A proposal that appears to garner the full support of legislative leadership in Washington has had its critics rail against the idea with philanthropic intent.

According to Rutherford, some of the reasons that have not been given for not supporting the HELPER ACT (HR 3172 / S. 2981) is that other members of Congress in charge of finance, such as Congressman French Hill of Arkansas, have said that the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) cannot have more economic pressure or that some citizens cannot be favored by giving them preference over others who have tight budgets.

The project has had support from entities in the real estate industry, police organizations and firefighters.
